PLAY it Forward at The Elbo Room

The Elbo Room has one last chance at helping boost your confidence. With low attendance at its live shows and insufficient funds, The Elbo Room asks that you donate a few dollars, and in turn, receive a Golden Ticket for a lifetime of free The Elbo Room events. Marina and the Diamonds, Beyonce and Kimbra are a few of my female musical idols. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got to sing like one of them at The Elbo Room, and in front of a room full of people I didn’t know. Performing songs I’ve written myself is a dream in the making, but The Elbo Room gives artists and dreamers like me a chance to feel that stage-high after just 20 minutes of practice. Not only does it offer you the weekly opportunity to belt your favorite songs, but the significance of The Elbo Room as a venue is right in its name. “I feel like I just watched ‘Garden State’ in 12 minutes,” shouted a mysterious voice from a few feet away, as my bandmate and I exited center stage. While we can’t put a face to that back-handed compliment, the words ensured that we were seen to have the indie rocker vibe with which we identify.
