It may be the end of May, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying a Fresh Start. This edition focuses primarily on concerts featuring the diverse range of artists that Chicago has to offer! Don't hesitate, go out and enjoy the end of your month! MONDAY, MAY 29th Charlie Curtis-Beard / ConSoul / Super Truper @ Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave., 7:30PM WHAT: Local soul and hip hop for your Monday! SO WHAT: The extremely fun and talent Charlie Curtis-Beard will be headlining an evening of some great Chicago based artists. ConSoul will add their soulful sound to the mix while Super Truper puts his production skills on display! NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $10 in advance, $13 at the door for this 17+ night of Chicago sounds. TUESDAY, MAY 30th The Moth StorySLAM: Survival @ Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln Ave. 6:00PM WHAT: Storytellers telling stories SO WHAT: The Moth presets an open-mic storytelling competition. It is open to anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night’s theme. Come tell a story, or just enjoy the show! This time performers prepare a five-minute story about surviving! NOW WHAT: Tickets are sold out but there will be a limited amount available at the door.  Dr. Octagon featuring Kool Keith, Dan the Automator, and DJ Qbert @ Metro, 3730 North Clark St., 9:00PM WHAT: The return of the doctor... SO WHAT: Dr. Octagon is the musical collaboration of the outlandish MC skills of Kool Keith, the intense production of Dan the Automator, and the turntable work of DJ Qbert. Although there was only one true album (Dr. Octagonecologyst) by this trio, it has remained a classic and a downright ludicrous album that need to be experienced live. NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $25 for this must see reunion! TALsounds / Mukqs / Sam Prekop / Matchess @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., 9:00PM WHAT: Experimental sounds from our town SO WHAT: Chicago has a wide array of sounds that make of our music scene, but nothing can compare to the electronic variations created by this lineup of musicians. TALsounds and Mukqs will both be releasing records this evening full of ambient experiences. Sam Prekop and Matchess will also be in attendance giving the Bottle some more intense music that will send you in another realm. Brett Naucke will be performing a DJ set as well. NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $7 for this evening of experimental sounds.  WEDNESDAY, MAY 31st The Modern School of Film with Christopher Guest @ Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave., 7:00PM WHAT: A kick off to the 4th Annual 26th Annual Comedy Festival SO WHAT:  The Modern School of Film will continue its international In:Pictures series, where celebrated guests from the world of film, music, comedy, and culture screen and discuss clips from three films that have most-inspired their life and work. Hosted by MSF Founder Robert Milazzo, Christopher Guest revisit the times and the films that shaped his singular body of work. He'll also be taking audience questions throughout the evening. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $27.50 for what will be an interesting evening Ella Fitzgerald Centennial Tribute with Lili K. @ Untitled, , 7:30PM WHAT: A night to remember Ella Fitzgerald SO WHAT: Untitled will be having a centennial celebration of the life and music of "The Queen of Jazz", Ella Fitzgerald. This year marks the Fitzgerald's' 100th birth year and Untitled will be commemorating it with a special live tribute with Chicago's own Lili K. She will be performing Ella's well-loved classics, as well as a few chestnuts selected especially for the occasion (here's hoping for a cover of "I'm Making Believe").
