While our city is far more urban than it is ever going to be tropical, Chicago flaunts a fair number of beaches, and Mamby on the Beach takes advantage of Chicago in the summer at Oakwood Beach at 41st Street, this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25.
In fact, Mamby on the Beach encompasses the majesty of summer in a series of mentally stimulating, as well as, therapeutic activities. As you frolic through the sand, be sure to spread your attention across the entire festival grounds. This year, you’ll have an opportunity to watch art being made. There will be live painting demonstrations and elaborate art installations brought straight to you.
Solar energy will erupt live music from a Solarbaetz Art Car. Your future will unfold before your eyes in the form of Tarot cards and palm readings. And if you want to improve your beach fashion game, head to the Red7 Salon “Beach Beauty Oasis” for an effortless beach hairdo, or get temporarily stamped at the Henna station.
You can even work out and meditate throughout your weekend on the beach. Mamby on the Beach unveils some new Yoga instructional talents, with such activities as Deep House Yoga. Alissa.jo is a House DJ with a passion for the calm art of yoga. She combines them and gives you yet another outlet through which to expand your artistic and physical horizons.
Of course, the starring role at Mamby on the Beach is indeed the musical acts that you have long awaited. Saturday, experience a balanced mix of sounds; get your adrenaline pumping with Windy City Soul Club, later let oddCouple soothe your mind, start your two-step back up with Justin Jay and pick your two to three headliner stops to top off the evening.
Shoot into space with the colorful sounds of MGMT, then traipse over to Park Stage and unleash your inner pop star with MisterWives. Maybe you’ll head back Sunday afternoon wearing emoji patterned pants to go with your new henna tattoo!
Sunday also allows for plenty of creativity in planning your beach weekend closer. But both days will offer up their own lineups of after parties, so don’t miss those, either!
