Your Chicago Curated Weekend: 7/20 – 7/23
Well, I've more or less recovered from the wonderful Pitchfork Music Festival that took place this past weekend. Thankfully this stormy weather didn't stop by during the fest, which was one of the most pleasant festival experiences I've had! I highly suggest you check out my and Colin Smith's coverage of the fest. Day one, Day Two (our personal favorite), Day Three, are all up with a nice gallery of photos!
Now enough about last weekend, let's get on with this week's curated weekend!
THURSDAY, JULY 20th
Enjambre / Porter / Avantist @ Concord Music Hall, 2047 N Milwaukee Ave., 8:00PM 18+
WHAT: Red Bull Sound Select continues their eclectic music series with this great show at Concord Music Hall
SO WHAT: This series of shows focuses on local sounds handpicked by local tastemakers. The lineup this time around is curated by the TUSSONI2 and is the first all latino lineup! The night will feature local badasses Avantist, Guadalajara's experimental rock group Porter, and the epic rock sounds of Enjambre!
NOW WHAT: Tickets are $15 at the door or $5 with RSVP. Entry is first come first serve for this 21+, so get their early and enjoy!
Drink & Draw @ Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, 2780 N Lincoln Ave., 7:00PM – 9:00PM
WHAT: BYOB drawing in a toy store/gallery
SO WHAT: Mary Ruth Butterworth will be hosting a fun evening of drawing, sketching and doodling! You can participate in the creative outlet while enjoying your favorite adult beverages, BYOB. No matter what skill level you reside at, all are welcome!
NOW WHAT: Grab your favorite drink of choice and enjoy it responsibly while partaking in some creativity!
V.V. Lightbody @ H! Bar, 2022 W North Ave., 8:00PM - 10:00PM 21+
WHAT: The final night of V.V. Lightbody's residence at H! bar
SO WHAT: V.V Lightbody is one of Vivian McConnell's newer musical outlets, bring her gorgeous voice tot he forefront of another project. Her sound is a wonderful companion to the cocktail lounge vibe of H! Bar as she performs tender songs full of all the intricacies you'd expect from the front woman of Grandkids.
NOW WHAT: This evening of beautiful tune is free! Go and enjoy!
FRIDAY & SATURDAY, JULY 21st & 22nd
Tim and Eric 10th Anniversary Awesome Tour @ The Vic Theatre, 3145 N Sheffield Ave., 8:00PM 18+
WHAT: I'm honestly not sure. It's Tim and Eric on a tour. Madness, probably
SO WHAT: In honor of the 10 year anniversary of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Tim and Eric have hit the road this summer for a special tour! In the words of Tim and Eric, "It’s been 10 years. We are heading out to see our chips across the USA and celebrate this incredible decade of Tim and Eric with a number of new spoofs and goofs, riffs and bits, songs and dances and hope to create memories to last a lifetime." Basically it's gonna get weird.
NOW WHAT: Tickets are $47.50 for each night of whats sure to be a manic explosion of oddities.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY, JULY 22nd & 23rd
49th Annual Sheffield Music Festival & Garden Walk @ Sheffield and Webster, Noon to 10:00PM
WHAT: A big summer fest!
SO WHAT: The "Summer's Best Festival" features self-guided tours of more than 80 Gardens, guided Architectural Tours, plenty of food, tons of drinks including a Craft beer fest, activities for children at the Kids' Corner, and some amazing live bands including Jessica Lea Mayfield & Foxygen at the main stage!
NOW WHAT: There is a suggested $10 donation at the gate of the fest and tickets for the main stage are $20 in advance
SATURDAY, JULY 22nd
A Jason Molina Celebration@ The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., 9:00PM 21+
WHAT: A night to honor an amazing singer songwriter
SO WHAT: Join members of Songs: Ohia and the author of Jason Molina: Riding with the Ghost Erin Osmon for an evening of readings, discussion and songs to honor the incredibly impactful life and work of the late singer-songwriter Jason Molina.
NOW WHAT: Tickets are $12 for this great night
SUNDAY, JULY 23rd
3 Floyd's Rick & Morty Beer Brunch @ Headquarters, , Noon - 3:00PM 21+
WHAT: Morty! There's uhh, another thing happening, *burp*, in Chicago. They're uhh, making food Morty! Inspired by our adventures Morty!
SO WHAT: Wubba Lubba Dub Dub! HQ is partnering with Three Floyds Brewing for a second year to bring you the SCHWIFTIEST event around - the Rick and Morty Beer Brunch!
