Cap’n Jazz & Hop Along Close Out House of Vans’ House Parties Series on 7/29

House of Vans is the best new venue to experience music at this year. It’s a big warehouse that when transforming into an inviting stage for amazing bands jam out, it's an excellent indoor skatepark that lets skaters get a chance to test out their skills. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, making sure you feel at ease in the space. It's been one of my favorite places to see a show. Earlier this summer, House of Vans and FYF announced a series of House Parties that have been to say the least, amazing. The Chicago edition of the series (which featured Denzel Curry and Nyck @ Knight, The Lawrence Arms with Dillinger Four and Toys That Kill, the Internet  and Inc. No Word, and Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires with last minute additions The Cool Kids) is coming to a pretty fantastic end. The Summer House Parties series will be throwing one more night of entrancing tunes with a lineup of old and new acts: Cap’n Jazz and Hop Along. If you aren’t aware of Cap’n Jazz, then you are missing out on an excellent piece of Chicago music history. The band is made up of Chicago music stalwarts Tim Kinsella, Mike Kinsella, Sam Zurick, Victor Villarreal, and Davey von Bohlen who’s musical and literary arms stretch far and wide across the city. Their sound is a fun and complex cacophony of sounds that get put into punk, emo, and everything adjacent to those genres. it makes sense considering how they jump from boisterous energetic noise to pained crooning within moments of a song. However, I think the band says it best when they describe the genre in which they created music in as original. This is the group’s return to music together under this name in quite a while, with their last show before this current string of dates being in 2010. Joining this wonderful reuniting Cap’n Jazz will be Hop Along, the musical project of frontwoman Francis Quinlan. Hop Along produces gut wrenching folk rock that is consistently a joy to listen to, especially as Quinlan’s voice yelps and serenades with unbridled intensity. Their last album, Painted Shut, tackles family drama and heartbreak with the poise of a poet and the charge of the best rock bands. This lineup is looking like the perfect way to finish off the House Party series, so don’t miss out.  This 18+ show will take place on Friday, July 29th at House of Vans, 113 N Elizabeth St., and it’s free with RSVP. Doors open at 7:00pm, but entry is not guaranteed as the show is first come, first served until they hit capacity. So get there early and be ready to party with Cap’n Jazz and Hop Along!
