It's big weekend for fun and unique events with the Air and Water Show taking over the lakefront and people heading out of town and down into southern Illinois to get to their prime Solar Eclipse spots and partake in the cosmic event! THURSDAY, AUGUST 17th Brews & Buttons of the Past @ Busy Beaver Button Co., 3407 W Armitage Ave., 6:30PM - 9:00PM WHAT: Busy Beaver Button Museum and Chicago Brewseum are teaming for a brief history of beer! SO WHAT: Join Busy Beaver Buttons and Chicago Breseum for talks about beer and some tasty beverages from Marz Community Brewing, Middle Brow Beer Co., Maplewood Brewery & Distillery, Forbidden Root, and Illuminated Brew Works. SO WHAT: Enamel pins have become a staple of many people’s wardrobe, but behind the pins are unique artists. Girl Pin Gang (“GPG”) is an international collective of female, transgender, and non-binary enamel pin & patch makers. This weekend event will show off not only the enamel pins collectors have grown to love, but also the personal work of the artists behind them. First 50 shoppers get a gift bag filled with goodies FRIDAY - SATURDAY, AUGUST 18th- 20th Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest @ Rogers Park, 7006 N Glenwood Ave., Friday 6:00PM - 10:00PM, Saturday & Sunday 11:00AM - 9:00PM WHAT: Art, music, and more! SO WHAT: The 16th annual Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest  is a free, weekend-long arts festival that featuring over 125 artists, open studios, and live entertainment on several outdoor stages. Music will include acts like Avantist, White Mystery, Sweet Spirit, The Gold Web, and many more! The launch party, known as the Friday Night Cobblestone Jam, will happen on Friday from 6pm to 10pm, with the artists’ market on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 9pm. FRIDAY, AUGUST 18th The Upside Down @ Emporium Pop Ups, 2363 N Milwaukee Ave., 7:00PM WHAT: Another amazing concept bar by the fine people at Emporium SO WHAT: This Stranger Things inspired pop-up bar will transport you to a 80’s summer dance party filled with all the curious oddities from the haunting happenings in Hawkins, Indiana. Join the ranks of the brave kids of the Hawkins Middle School A.V. Club and reign supreme over the secretive Hawkins National Laboratory & the dangerous Demogorgon! There will be show-inspired adult beverages, artwork & design installations from local artists, and occasional musical performances from some very special mystery guests in the following weeks. Poster Release: Blues Brothers w/Galerie F @ Logan Theatre, 2646 N Milwaukee Ave., 9:00PM WHAT: Poster and movie! SO WHAT: Galerie F will release teo limited edition Blues Brothers prints in The Logan Lounge before the opening night screenings of The Blues Brothers, a Chicago film staple! Stop by early (9 pm) for first dibs on prints and stay for the movie at 11 pm. NOW WHAT: Tickets for the film are $8.50 SATURDAY & SUNDAY, AUGUST 19th & 20th Pilsen Fest 2017 @ 18th St and Blue Island Ave., Noon - 10:00PM WHAT: A festival celebrating the culture of the Latino Community SO WHAT: Pilsen Fest focuses its sights on deep pool of cultural talent that exists in the Latino Community of the Pilsen neighborhood and the rest of the Chicago metropolitan area. Culinary arts, musicians, mixologists, poets, muralists, painters, writers, documentarians, and photographers are represented in the festivities all weekend. Pilsen Fest partners with El BeiSMan whose mission is to promote cultural literacy within the diverse Latino/Mexican community. NOW WHAT: Keep updated with Pilsen Fest at their Facebook page and their event page. SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th DRAW! DRAW! DRAW! @ Galerie F, 2415 N Milwaukee Ave., 6:00PM - 10:00PM WHAT: A live art event in Logan Square SO WHAT: Galerie F, your place for posters, prints and street art in Chicago, will be hosting a panel of 12 pre-selected artists who will be creating beautiful and affordable works in the gallery that you can take home with you. This edition will feature Alex Moulds, Angela Azmitia, Ava, Bleh the Buddha, Bosko, Cristi López, KOUK, Shounen Nick ,Patrick Burnell, RAMIRO, shuambies, and  Tavi Veraldi! For those of you who may want to create some artwork to sell, there will be a handful of first come first serve “drop-in” seats for artists who were not previously selected for the show. Artists keep 100% of their proceeds from this event and get to share their craft with the amazing patrons of Galerie F. It’s set to be a great night of live at creation where you can socialize with like minded art enthusiasts. NOW WHAT: The event is free, open to the public, and BYOB. The Evening Attraction / Pearl Charles @ Virgin Hotel Chicago, 203 N Wabash Ave. 9:00PM WHAT: Night of indie sounds at the  Virgin Hotel Chicago SO WHAT: The Virgin Hotel Chicago has been putting on some amazing shows and this one sounds quite good! Join local wonders The Evening Attraction and L.A.’s Pearl Charles for a night of fantastic indie rock sounds. NOW WHAT: The show is free, so get their early hang with some cool people. SUNDAY, AUGUST 20th ZINEmercado @ Comfort Station, 2579 N Milwaukee Ave., 11:00AM - 6:00PM WHAT: ZINES! SO WHAT: Join Comfort Station in Logan Square for the 2nd annual ZINEmercado ! This year's edition will be larger and feature zines by several dozen artists, writers, musicians, and photographers. They'll also have  live performance from Wet Wallet, and DJ sets by Rebel Betty, BillyTheKid, Bumbac Joe, and King Hippo! NOW WHAT: It's free! Check out the long and impressive list of artist that will be in attendance here! Graffiti Jam @ Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S Cornell Ave., 1:00PM - 4:00PM WHAT: A unique art event for all ages! SO WHAT: Graffiti Jam will feature live music and interactive art activities for all ages, including live painting and an open mic. Led by mural artists Miguel Aguilar, Rahmaan Barnes and Liz Lazdins, Graffiti Jam is a public introduction of an ongoing interactive mural on the walls of the Hyde Park Art Center. This will be a part of an art exhibition entitled “Wall of Now: Children of the Wall", a mural inspired by and a tribute to the iconic Wall of Respect, a mural portraying portraits of African-American heroes on Chicago’s South Side in the late 60s and early 70s.
