Fresh Start To Your Week: 11/13 – 11/15

This past weekend we had our first showing of snow! Luckily it was short lived and didn't deter you from heading out and enjoying all the great events! The beginning of this week will keep the events part of that going with some fantastic concerts, art, podcasts, and brews to make it a fun time all around! So let's give your week a fresh start! MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13th The Flat Five Fall Freak Out Residency @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave., 7:00PM, 21+ WHAT: The place you’ll want to be at every Monday SO WHAT: The Flat Five are the super group that Chicago needs. Made up of Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, Kelly Hogan, Nora O’Connor and Alex Hall, the band’s debut album It’s a World of Love and Hope is made up entirely of songs by Chicago mainstay Chris Ligon.  Their sound is everything you could want from these music masters: sweet and twisted pop songs that will get stuck in your head. Now you can see them mix things up like the good ole days at this multi-month residency where they will be trying a whole mess of beautiful things every Monday night. This evening will be Nilsson Night, where The Flat Five will play the songs of Harry Nilsson and will feature very special guest Kiefo Nilsson, he actual Son of Schmilsson! NOW WHAT: There is no better way to spend $15 on a Monday night. Head out and experience this masterful group. Salonathon: I'm Doing This For Me @ Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., 8:00PM, 21+ WHAT: A weekly show of experimental work featuring an inclusive creative community throwing  a great party! SO WHAT: The theme of this week's Salonathon is a chance for you to little extra and celebrating doing things for yourself. So come out and join the search party! Feel the love with this line up of fantastic Chicago artists performing some underground, emerging, and genre-defying art and stick around for a fun community with jams provided by DJ Danny Leeroy. Mia Joy (Tape Release) / Rosali / Cupid Youth / Head @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave., 9:00PM, 21+ WHAT: A fun tape release! SO WHAT: Founded in 2013, Dumpster Tapes has released a new tape nearly every month for over three years, showcasing the best of local garage and psych rock. For this tape release show, the label has thrown together a banger of show for a free Monday! Mia Joy's dreamy and fuzzy shoegaze-esque sound will headline the night (it is her tape release afterall!) and she will be joined by Rosali, Cupid Youth, and Head! NOW WHAT: It's free!! (and 21+) TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th Tarot Reading for Beginners @ Sideshow Gallery, 2219 N Western Ave., 7:00PM WHAT: Sideshow Gallery presents Tarot Reading for Beginners, taught by Anne Elliott. SO WHAT: Learn the basics of tarot and how to do a reading for yourself and your friends. The class will provide a historical background for the tarot and explore the meanings of the cards and their symbolism. You will read with a group of people and then break off into pairs to practice the basics. No prior knowledge required. NOW WHAT: The class costs $25, appointment recommended! Call 773-276-1300 to reserve a spot.   WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15th Milkstachio + Firecakes Donuts Collab @ Dryhop Brewers, 3155 N Broadway St., 5:00PM WHAT: Milkstachio is back for its 5th consecutive year! SO WHAT: Milkstachio  is Dryhop's 6% Pistachio Milk Stout collaboration with Hop Butcher for the World - A Beer Company. It's brewed with unrefined cacao nibs, lactose, and pistachio to give you smooth brew to enjoy. This year’s release party will feature pistachio old fashioned donuts from the fine folks over at Firecakes Donuts, who will be adding actual Milkstachio to the treats NOW WHAT: The release starts at 5:00pm, so head down and enjoy! After Work: Emily Blue @ The Robey, 2022 W North Ave., 6:00PM, 21+ WHAT: Music at chill lounge SO WHAT: The Robey has a new series, After Work, where local artists will play intimate, stripped down sets in their second floor lounge. Don't miss out on cocktail, beer & wine specials as you are serenaded by some of the best acts in Chicago. This week the series features a beautiful set by Emily Blue! NOW WHAT: This is series is free and a great way to discover new artists. You, Me, Them, Everybody Live @ Hungry Brain, 2319 W Belmont Ave., 9:00PM, 21+ WHAT: It's a late night talk show that's recorded for a podcast, think Ferguson or Letterman SO WHAT: You, Me, Them, Everybody is podcast where two or more people discuss whatever pops into their head. Hosted by Brandon Wetherbee and co-host Esmeralda Leon, the night will tackle subjects far and wide with guests Colt Cabana, Stephanie Hasz, Deanna Ortiz, and Deadbeat!
