Upcoming Renovations to Displace Some Single-Room Occupancy Residents

Residents of Wilson Men's Hotel in Uptown are preparing to pack and leave amid the "cage hotel" closing for renovation by its new owners. Some of those residents do not foresee a return, anticipating much higher rent than that which has classified the units as affordable housing until now. The number of single-room occupancy (SRO) units in Chicago has decreased since 2008, a fall from 81 to 66 across the city since new ownerships and effort to maintain licenses for SROs (Chicago Tribune).
