2018 Could Be the Year of the Woman Again in U.S. Politics

The number of women running for Illinois Congressional or statewide executive offices is at 28, a number the Chicago Tribune identifies as a response to the defeat of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, the #MeToo movement and the anniversary of women's marches across the country. The Rutgers University Center for American Women and Politics found that 2018 could be a first in the number of women running for offices across the country. The number of women seeking U.S. House or Senate seats is currently at 450, including both those who have filed and those likely to file (Chicago Tribune).
