Rauner to Give Budget Address Wednesday

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner will deliver the final budget address of his first term Wednesday, amid a backlog of $8.67 billion in bills and rumors of another budget impasse. In his ‘state of the ‘state’ speech at the end of January, Rauner said he would deliver a “balanced budget,” something he’s alleged he’s done every year, a claim which has been repudiated and rated “pants on fire” by Politifact. Last week Rauner claimed that House speaker Mike Madigan wants “another budget impasse,” another claim that was quickly repudiated by House Democrats and some Republicans. The Rauner administration also has said it plans to address the deficit and roll back the most recent income tax increase. (Peoria Journal Star)
