Suspect Charged With Murdering CPD Commander Appears in Bond Court
A 44 year-old man is being held without bond, now facing multiple charges in the shooting death of Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer. Shomari Legghette appeared in bond court Thursday, and is charged with Bauer’s murder along with aggravated use of a weapon by a felon and drug possession. Legghette is accused of shooting at Bauer 7 times, 6 of which struck the officer, in a stairwell at the Thompson Center on Tuesday. Bauer had been participating in a training scenario earlier that day and spotted Legghette after radio traffic matched the description of a suspect tactical officers were pursuing. His death is the first time an officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty since 2011. (Sun-Times)
