Video surveillance revealed that Schaumburg cop John Cichy, who was accused of running a drug ring, stole $20,000 planted in a storage locker by a dealer-turned-informant, but his case fell apart last week. Cichy's attorney, Jay Fuller, blamed the dismantling of the case on a discrepancy in evidence, including one witness who refuses to testify. An informant enlisted by investigators provides a bulk of the evidence presented about Cichy. Two other ex-officers pleaded guilty to participating in the ring and were sentenced to over 20 years; their attorneys would like an explanation for the dropped charges (Chicago Tribune).
