Sen. Bernie Sanders Endorses Chuy Garcia For Congress

Vermont Senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders endorsed Chuy Garcia for Congress at a rally in Chicago Thursday afternoon. “I am here this afternoon because we are living in a pivotal moment in American history,” said Sanders. “We need strong progressive voices in Washington, and Chuy Garcia will be that voice.” Garcia is running to replace Congressman Luis Guitierrez, who is retiring as the 4th District representative. It’s not the first time the Senator has endorsed Garcia for a political office. Prior to announcing his presidential campaign, Sanders endorsed Garcia for Mayor of Chicago during the runoff election with Rahm Emanuel. Meanwhile, Our Revolution Illinois - a political organization that grew out of Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign - endorsed Senator Daniel Biss for governor. Sanders however, has yet to say if he supports a particular candidate in that race. (Sun-Times)
