Overwatch’s Soldier 76 and D.Va Regale, IPG Rules Video Games at C2E2 Day 2

Overwatch Panel at C2E2 Saturday 2018. Photo by Marielle Shaw We were back on the floor for the second day of C2E2, braving the crowds to give you daily coverage. Saturday had a noticeably larger crowd, but one with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. And when we weren’t on the floor looking for cool retro game gear or checking out I Play Game’s huge video game area, we were checking out some of the great panels. Perhaps the biggest video game related panel at this year’s C2E2 was Saturday’s “Voices of Overwatch” when the voice actor behind D.Va, Charlet Chung returned for another panel appearance, this time with fellow Overwatch alum Fred Tatasciore-- the voice of Soldier 76. They entertained the packed room with anecdotes ranging from what it was like voicing an iconic character for Blizzard to how they secretly interact with their fans. Charlet Chung told us about how she once tried to convince skeptical players online that she was indeed the voice actress behind D.Va, only for them to not believe her.  Meanwhile, Fred Tatasciore regaled the audience with the story of his long career and handed out some pretty solid acting advice, interspersed with a variety of amazingly well-done character voices. Each day I Play Games (IPG) holds multiple tournaments at their large gaming area (in the 300 aisle) with the evening being capped off with a Dragon Ball Fighters Z tournament on the stage at booth 2033. IPG’s gaming area houses all sorts of competitive games, from retro (played on authentic retro hardware) to modern. Today there are four scheduled tournaments as of this writing: 11am Mortal Kombat II, 1pm WWF Wrestlemania 2000, 2pm Injustice 2 and 3pm be the Dragon Ball Fighters Z tournament, where the winner will take home a DXRacer gaming chair. Also during the 11am to 12pm there will be a panel looking back on the history of the Mortal Kombat series, specifically the first three games in the series. Finally, in room S406 from 12:15pm to 1:15pm there will be a voice acting panel with many video game voice acting alums like Fred Tatasciore, voice of Wonder Woman Susan Eisenberg, and Vanessa Marshall, who has done numerous video game voices. Also joining them will be other famous voice actors, like Phil Lamarr and Tom Kenny (Spongebob). This has been an exciting C2E2, and Sunday looks to be a strong close to another great convention. Don’t forget to check out IPG’s video game area in aisle 300. Or, if video games aren’t your thing, try out the tabletop lending library in aisle 200. We’ll see you on the floor.
