Fresh Start to Your Week: 4/16 – 4/18

As I woke up to get ready for the day and saw the snow-covered street outside my window, I wondered if I was dreaming? Maybe I should stop talking about the weather. Every time I bring it up it just gets worse. Luckily, there are plenty of worthwhile distractions waiting for me in Chicago! Tons of concerts with a little something for everyone, comedy, and even BINGO! So relax, don't get so flustered over this ridiculous snow, and enjoy Chicago! Let's give your week a fresh start! MONDAY, APRIL 16th ClickHole @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave., 7:00pm, 21+ WHAT: ClickHole doing their thing at The Hideout, one weird presentation at a time probably SO WHAT:  The Onion’s publication Clickhole, which satirizes sites like Buzzfeed and the culture surrounding “clickbait,” will be featuring its writers at the Hideout for a night of comedy that will include present stories, tales, and PowerPoint presentations. That’s right, PowerPoint presentations. Like the ones at your mind numbing job, but intentionally funny. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $7 for this comedy show. Free Monday: Glitter Creeps presents ONO, Ganser (record release), and Courtesy @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave., 8:30pm, 21+ WHAT: FREE MONDAY SO WHAT: You know the drill folks, it’s Free Monday at the empty bottle so you know there’s going to be a worthwhile show happening. Ono‘s sparse electronic beats and over the top theatrical vocal and stage presence will kick off your week perfectly, Ganser will be celebrating the release of their post punk debut Odd Talk, and Courtesy‘s ambient experimental jams off their upcoming album Hey will start things off! Glitter Creeps will be DJing throughout the night! NOW WHAT: ITS FREE! TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17th & 18th Kid Koala’s Satellite Turntable Orchestra @ The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S Michigan Ave., 9:30pm, All Ages WHAT: A one of a kinda interactive performance SO WHAT: Kid Koala has created an innovative collection of dreamy, atmospheric tracks composed specifically to be played together with a live audience. Audience members will be seated at stations equipped with a turntable, effects box, and a small crate of color-coded vinyl records. Through subtle colored lighting changes, the audience will be cued to play along.  The idea is to have 60 harmonized turntables create a unique, uplifting, dynamic evening of light and ambient vinyl music! NOW WHAT: The early shows are sold out but tickets for both the 9:30pm shows on Tuesday & Wednesday are still available! TUESDAY, APRIL 17th Matt & Kim / Future Feats / Tokyo Police Club @ Riviera Theatre, 4746 N Racine Ave., 6:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Likely the most fun you’ll ever have at a show! SO WHAT: You know who know how to throw an amazing show: Matt & Kim. Mixing short burst of party anthem drops between their own spectacular songs, Matt & Kim make every one of their concerts an amazing experience. The last time they were in town there was huge inflatable dicks and beach balls everywhere. Los Angeles-based alternative pop outfit Future Feats will be joining the party with their infectious vintage synths that sound like classic New Wave anthems you’ve been search for all your life. Tokyo Police Club will also be opening up the night with some pure indie rock mixed with bright pop sounds. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $35 for this incredible lineup! Bit Brigade performs The Legend of Zelda/ Double Ferrari / Touched By Ghoul @ Beat Kitchen, 2100 W Belmont Ave., 8:00pm, 17+ WHAT: Video games and music collide SO WHAT: Bit Brigade merges the world of live music with the speed running video game scene for one hell of a show.  All the high stakes of the video game world are present as a gamer attempts to flawlessly play a speed run (finishing a game very quickly) live on stage while the band soundtracks the action with a full cover of the game music with their intense skills. Joining them will be metal marvels Double Ferrari & explosive rock of Touched By Ghoul! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $12, go and rock out! The Residents @ Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N Lincoln Ave., 9:30pm, All Ages WHAT: Rock band/art collective/spirits SO WHAT: The Residents have been icons in the world of experimental music for over forty years. Their groundbreaking work in the areas of trance, world fusion, electronica, punk, industrial and lounge music, has been mind bending. So don’t miss out on seeing one of the originators of performance art and music video work! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $35! WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18th SiriusXM Presents Alt Nation’s Advanced Placement Tour: Mansion Air / Mikky Ekko / NoMBe @ Chop Shop, 2033 W North Ave., 6:00pm, All Ages WHAT: An excellent venue hosting some chill musicians SO WHAT: Curated by Sirius XM’s Alt Nation, this fantastic show will feature some of the most interesting up and coming artists! Mansionair will provide some vibey jams like their latest single “Violet City”, Mikky Ekko will serenade you with his smooth vocal talents, and NoMBe‘s incredibly sexy jams will get stuck in you head as you dance the night away at Chop Shop. These three musical talents will make for a show that shouldn’t be missed! NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $15! Get on this asap and check out these amazing artists! Secret Chicago Bingo Night @ Volumes Bookcafe, 1474 N Milwaukee Ave, 7:00pm - 9:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Learn about Chicago while having a great time! SO WHAT: Hyper-local author Jessica Mlinaric has a new book: Secret Chicago: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure and to celebrate this fun book, Volumes is hosting a fun event! Jessica will read a bit of fun secret Chicago history  and then everyone can join in to play some Chicago History BINGO. There might be some trivia here and there for prizes as well.
