Oh boy, it's going to be a rainy weekend. But that shouldn't be enough to hold you back from heading out into town and checking out all the fantastic events going on. Music, art and food festivals galore and plenty of  unique experiences are all within reach. So get your umbrella and make this a great weekend. Let's get on with your curated weekend! THURSDAY, JULY 19th Adler After Dark: Superhero Science @ Adler Planetarium, 1300 S Lake Shore Dr, 6:00pm, -10:00pm, 21+ WHAT: A chance to choose a side, create your own super character, and participate in a museum-wide adventure as either a superhero or villain! SO WHAT: This edition of Adler After Dark will explore the powers of your favorite heroes (and villains) in the Marvel & DC universes with special hands-on experiments exploring magnetism, flight, X-Ray vision, and so many more powers. You'll also learn about some of the actual “superheroes of science” with amazing objects from Adler’s own collection. There will be special talks, special guests, and much more! So get you most heroic costume on and enjoy this fantastic event! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for members. Make it a night to remember! Tara McPherson Pop Up Shop @ Rotofugi, 2780 N Lincoln Ave, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Tara McPherson is making a stop at Rotofugi! SO WHAT: Before heading out to Flatstock at the Pitchfork Music Festival, Tara McPherson and Cotton Candy Machine will be hanging out with Rotofugi! The pop up is full of Tara McPherson's art, available as limited edition giclee prints, rock posters, screen prints, lithographs, stickers, postcards, pins, buttons, puzzles and more. This special part of the tour is sponsored by Threadless, you'll be able to shop a select section of Tara McPherson's Threadless goodies only in Chicago! Millennium Park Music Series: Anoushka Shankar & Hollie Cook @ Millennium Park, 201 E Randolph St, 6:30pm - 9:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Another year of the fantastic Millennium Park Summer Music Series SO WHAT: This year's exciting lineup continues to take cues from both internationally known performers to local artists that are more than worthy of such an impressive spotlight. Tonight the series will feature Indian Fusion musician Anoushka Shankar and reggae artist Hollie Cook! NOW WHAT: All shows in this series are free and will start at 6:30pm rain or shine. Red Bull Music Presents: Peak Time w/ Teklife @ The Promontory, 5311 S Lake Park Ave, 7:00pm, 18+ WHAT: Celebrate the past, present and future of the world’s premiere footwork crew, Teklife Records! SO WHAT: In a live Red Bull Radio events, DJ Spinn, DJ Taye, General Juke aka DJ Gant-Man, DJ Manny, and DJ Boylan sit down with Vivian Host in front of a live studio audience to discuss how the music and dance genre developed into a cultural movement. After the talk, stick around for a heavy-hitting after party with awesome performances by a long list of DJs including RP Boo, DJ Tre, and more! FRIDAY - SUNDAY, JULY 20th - 21st Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park, Union Park, 1501 W Randolph St, Noon - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: A music festival focused on some of the best music you can find today SO WHAT: Pitchfork have been the taste-makers in the just-under-the -mainstream community for a while and they know how to put on a good festival. This year is no different with a stellar lineup including headliners like Tame Impala, Fleet Foxes and Ms. Lauryn Hill! Regular three-day passes for the fest have unfortunately sold out, but you can still pick up Pitchfork Plus ($395) or single day tickets ($75). 3rd Annual Tacos y Tamales Festival @ 16th & Peoria in Pilsen, All Ages WHAT: Modelo USA, Frida Kahlo Community Organization, Like Food, and Green Curtain Events present the 3rd Annual Tacos y Tamales Festival! SO WHAT: This is a street affair based off a traditional Mexican market known as the Tianguis. You'll be able to enjoy some authentic tacos and tamales from several regions of Latin America, music, vendors, art, and more! Check out their event page for more details! NOW WHAT: There is a $5 suggested donation benefiting the Frida Kahlo Community Organization FRIDAY, JULY 20th Out of Space: The Lone Bellow @ Temperance Beer Co., 2000 Dempster St, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, 18+ (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent) WHAT: In honor of their 10th year providing the north Chicago suburb a place to see spectacular shows, SPACE will be presenting Out of Space, a series of outdoor concerts all summer long throughout Evanston. SO WHAT:  The multiple meaning, pun titled Out of Space will be welcoming an impressive lineup of musicians to venues like Temperance Beer Co., Canal Shores, and SPACE’s inaugural Big Evanston Block Party at the intersection of Chicago and Dempster. This night will feature The Lone Bellow! After a short break and relocating to Nashville from Brooklyn, The Lone Below returned last year with the release of Walk into a Storm. Their lush songs embrace the Americana sound wholeheartedly, making them ideal for a live outdoor setting. Check out the rest of the dates in the series here! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $28 for this great part of the Out of Space Series Remember Jones Presents Back to Back to Black: A Tribute to Amy Winehouse @ Reggies Rock Club, 2105 S State St, 8:00pm, 17+ WHAT: A recreation of Amy Winehouse's classic album SO WHAT: Remember Jones will be performing the entirety of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black with a 12-piece orchestra band + guests, plus an opening set of super-soul originals from Remember Jones and Bassel & the Supernaturals!! SATURDAY, JULY 22nd Chicago Oddities & Curiosities Expo @ Odeum Sports & Expo Center, 1033 N Villa Ave, Villa Park, 10:00am - 6:00pm, All Ages WHAT: A little bit of weirdness for your Saturday shopping SO WHAT: Vendors with items such as: Oddities, taxidermy, wet specimens, antiques, odd jewelry, unusual art, bones, curiosities and all around creepy, strange and bizarre items will be selling their wares at this unique and unusual market! NOW WHAT: Entry is $10, kids 12 and under are Free! Art Institute Block Party @ The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S Michigan Ave, 10:30am - 10:30pm, All Ages WHAT: A block party in and around the best art museum SO WHAT: Celebrate the deep and lasting impact of Chicago art and design on American culture with a day of talks, performances, and art making that fill the museum's galleries, gardens, library, and public spaces. Silver Room Block Party @ Silver Room, 1506 E 53rd St, Noon - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: A block party for all SO WHAT: This is an outdoor celebration of music, community, art, love and culture. The Silver Room Block Party rocked Hyde Park last summer with a huge crowd and they're ready to do it again. This will be the 15th year (the second year in Hyde Park) of this arty getting people dancing, singing, and celebrating culture. NOW WHAT: Head to this great free event. Out of Space: Slick Rick w/ The Cool Kids @ Temperance Beer Co., 2000 Dempster Street, Evanston, IL, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, 18+ (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent) WHAT: In honor of their 10th year providing the north Chicago suburb a place to see spectacular shows, SPACE will be presenting Out of Space, a series of outdoor concerts all summer long throughout Evanston. SO WHAT:  The multiple meaning, pun titled Out of Space will be welcoming an impressive lineup of musicians to venues like Temperance Beer Co., Canal Shores, and SPACE’s inaugural Big Evanston Block Party at the intersection of Chicago and Dempster. This is a double header for the ages. Slick Rick’s quick flow and status as an iconic rapper are cemented in time, having been sampled and referenced by the hip hop community hundred of times. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $25 for this great part of the Out of Space Series SUNDAY, JULY 23rd ZINEmercado @ Comfort Station, 2579 N Milwaukee Ave, 11:00am- 6:00pm, All Ages WHAT: ZINES! SO WHAT: Join Comfort Station in Logan Square for another edition of the annual ZINEmercado ! This year will feature zines by over 50 artists, writers, musicians, and photographers.
