Movies with a View: Elevated Films Returns This Week

Outdoor movies in Chicago abound in the summer months, as the park district, Gallagher Way at Wrigley Field and many, many more present movies in the open air. Though their offerings are less frequent than most, Elevated Films, a non-profit that supports Chicago youth arts, returns this week with a summer screening with a view. On Thursday, July 26, join Elevated Films for a screening of Sundance official selection The Miseducation of Cameron Post on the rooftop of the West Loop's Ace Hotel. Miseducation of Cameron Post Image courtesy of FilmRise Starring Chloë Grace Moretz (The Equalizer, If I Stay), the film actually won Sundance's Grand Jury award earlier this year, and Thursday's screening—to the best of my knowledge—marks the film's Chicago premiere. Adapted from Emily Danforth's novel, co-writer Desiree Akhavan (Appropriate Behavior) directs the story of a high schooler caught making out with the Prom Queen and subsequently sent off to gay conversion sleep-away camp. Set in the early '90s, the trailer promises equal parts period piece (albeit from a not so distant period) and teenage angst, as Cameron and her fellow campers navigate an experienced designed to make them think that who they are is inherently wrong. Tickets are limited for the Elevaed Films screening (the rooftop isn't as huge as, say, Pritzker Pavilion), and all proceeds go to support the arts organizations the group works with directly.
