From concerts, markets, a movie screening, and an opportunity to vent your football frustration (we know you're still holding on), Chicago is jam-packed with great ways to spend the next few days! So let's get started with your curated weekend! THURSDAY, JANUARY 10th Vinyl Me, Please: The Spins feat. Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma @ Sleeping Village, 3734 W Belmont Ave, 6:00pm, 21+ WHAT: A night of vinyl goodness SO WHAT:  Vinyl Me, Please is taking over Sleeping Village for their monthly The Spins event, this time featuring VMP’s January 2018 Record of the Month: Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma! It’ll be a night of great music, meeting the local vinyl-loving community, and plenty of drinks. You could even win a copy just by showing up and hanging out! NOW WHAT: The vinyl friendly event is free, so go out and have a great time! 826CHI Compendium VI Community Release @ Chicago Teachers Union, 1901 W. Caroll Ave., 6:00pm - 8:00pm, All Ages WHAT: A release party for 826CHI latest release SO WHAT: 826CHI’s 6th Compendium of student work is a remarkable collection of some of 826CHI’s favorite student writing from the last two years of programs. The anthology explores the idea of discovery through poems, essays, memoirs and short stories tackling topics of love, friendship, loss and more. Young authors will read pieces beginning at 6pm and snacks / beverages will be available. NOW WHAT: This event is free and open to the public! Slice Film Screening and Q&A with Writer/Director Austin Vesely @ City Winery, 1200 W Randolph St, 6:00pm - 10:00pm WHAT: A discussion and screening of some local cinema SO WHAT: Head out to City Winery and check out Slice! Written and directed by Austin Vesely, Slice is set in a spooky small town where a slew of pizza delivery boys are slain on the job. Two daring survivors (Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz and Chance the Rapper) set out to catch the culprits behind the haunted crime spree. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Vesely, hosted by writer Josh Terry. NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $10 for this great movie screening opportunity FRIDAY & SATURDAY, JANUARY 11th & 12th wndr After Dark @ wndr Museum, 1130 W. Monroe, 7:00pm - 11:00pm WHAT: The first wndr After Dark series of 2019! SO WHAT: wndr is turning the lights down and cranking the music up with a live DJ for an After Dark edition! You’ll get the entire wndr experience, including their Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Room, Ames optical illusion room, personalized poetry from a resident wndr poet, and much more. Plus, you also get the late-night energy and weekend party vibes. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $32 for this late night excursion into a unique visual experience! FRIDAY, JANUARY 11th Deeper / Divino Niño / The Hecks / Mia Joy @ Sleeping Village, 3734 W Belmont Ave, 9:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Cool tunes for your Friday night! SO WHAT: This is pretty much the perfect opportunity to get caught up with some of the best bands in town. So get down to Sleeping Village and experience Deeper’s spacy and driving guitar soundscapes, the alluring dream pop of Divino Niño, the noise distortions of The Hecks, and Mia Joy’s ambient soundscapes! NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $12 for the stacked lineup! Secret Colours / Faintlife / Jude Shuma with Cadien James @ Virgin Hotels Chicago, 203 N Wabash Ave, 9:00pm, 21+ WHAT: An excellent show on the 25th floor of Virgin Hotels Chicago SO WHAT: Head into the middle of the city and jam out with the best of them! This great psychedelic lineup features the chill grooves of Faintlife, atmospheric swirls of Secret Colours and gentle pop sensibility of Jade Shuma and some rare tracks provided by vinyl specialist Cadien James! NOW WHAT: Doors at 9pm and it's free! So get there early as space is limited! SATURDAY, JANUARY 12th Goose Island Field Goal Challenge @ Goose Island Fulton Taproom, 1800 W Fulton St, Noon - 4:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Prove your abilities and win some prizes (since apparently it's against the law to giveaway a year's worth of beer)! SO WHAT: So… I guess it’s finally okay to talk about Sunday’s Bears game. The yelling, swearing, and throwing is all out of our system and Goose Island has just the thing to finish the whole ordeal off. They’ve built a field goal post outside of the brewery for all you armchair kickers to prove that you can make a 43-yard field goal. You can read the original thread that inspired the challenge here! Prize for successfully making 43 yard field goal: Fly away for two people to a 2019 NFL regular season game of winner’s choice. Airfare and lodging included. Handmade Market Chicago @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, Noon - 4:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Shopping, eating, and drinking all in one place SO WHAT: Grab some food next door at Bite Cafe, maybe a drink from the Empty Bottle Bar, and start shopping the Handmade Market Chicago! They will be bringing over 30 makers of beautiful and unique items to the Empty Bottle! Join in and see what all the sellers will have to offer. The Pom-Poms (Kitty x Ricky Eat Acid) / Not Lovely / Desert Liminal @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, 8:30pm, 21+ WHAT: An evening of eclectic tunes! SO WHAT: The Pom-Poms are the electro-dance project from power couple Kitty and Sam Ray of Ricky Eat Acid. The band specializes in rave pop that will have you dancing your winter worries away! Joining them will be experimental Jazz/hip hop group Not Lovely and the dark and ambient minimalism of Desert Liminal. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 for this great night of tunes! SUNDAY, JANUARY 13th Logan Square Farmer's Market @ Emporium Arcade Bar Logan Square, 2363 N Milwaukee Ave, 10:00am - 3:00pm, WHAT: The Logan Square Farmer's Market, one of the few farmers markets in Chicago that runs weekly through winter, providing much appreciated direct income to farmers and the local food economy. SO WHAT:  You'll find 35+ local (farmers within 250mi of Chicago and closer for food purveyors) farm and food vendors providing some much needed local goods throughout the day. There will also be select arcade games available to play throughout the market and tunes from local musicians from 11:30am until 2pm! Plus select drinks like bloody marys, Irish cream, farmers market cocktail specials and drip coffee will be waiting for you! NOW WHAT: It's free! SO WHAT: Feminist Happy Hour (FHH) is a monthly performance showcase that amplifies the voices of women, femme and non-binary performers in comedy and beyond. Hosted by Amy Young & Brianna Wellen every month at Empty Bottle, they’ll be starting the year off right with a killer lineup including Carly Ballerini, Netra Netra Netra, Sarah Perry, Eric Persoon, and Adrienne Stout!
