THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21st Grown Folks Stories @ The Silver Room, 1506 E 53rd St, 7:00pm - 9:00pm WHAT: A place to share stories! SO WHAT: Ever just want to tell a story to a room full of people? Then you should stop by The Silver Room pop up for this open mic session Grown Folk Stories. No readings, no poetry, no spoken word, no themes, no judging. Just someone getting five minutes on the mic to tell their story. NOW WHAT: Suggested $5 donation. Come early for a seat or bring your own! BYOB! HELLTRAP NIGHTMARE feat. Majetic @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, 9:00pm, 21+ WHAT: ... well that's a weird looking yin and yang symbol isn't it? SO WHAT: You know what goes great with comedy? Horror and a huge gooey chunk of grossness. Join amazing comedians like Sarah Squirm, Shrimp Boys, Scott Egleston, and special musical guest Majetic as they prove just how fun that odd concoction can be! There will be special guests and drop ins! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 for this odd night of comedy and craziness. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd One Year Anniversary Party! @ Sleeping Village, 3734 W Belmont Ave, 11:00am - Close, 21+ WHAT: Celebrate the first year of amazing shows at Sleeping Village! SO WHAT: Sleeping Village will giving away concert tickets to every show on their calendar as a special thank you for a fantastic year. Each tap handle will have a random pair of tickets on it and the first person to order each beer gets 'em. They'll be donating $1 from every beer sold throughout the day to CIVL - Chicago Independent Venue League. The amazing venue will also dishing out free doggie treats from Chestnut & Grace Gourmet Dog Food and free coffee and donuts for humans, while supplies last. NOW WHAT: It's free! just get out there and celebrate! SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd 2019 Wild Things Conference @ Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N River Road, 9:00am - 6:00pm WHAT: The Wild Things Community is hosting their 2019 conference at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on February 23rd. SO WHAT: In an effort to promote conservation across the Chicago Region, the Wild Things Community seeks to expand and bring you into the fold. Learn from experts in the field about topics such as Chicago’s urban ecology, climate change, and our region’s natural history. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $50! Music Frozen Dancing: A Winter Block Party @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, 1:00pm - 7:00pm, Allages outside, 21+ inside WHAT: A little block party in the middle of winter SO WHAT: Clearly the most logical thing to do in February is to throw a party outside the Empty Bottle. Presented with their pals at Goose Island Beer Co, Music Frozen Dancing 2019 will be welcoming some fantastic artists to their chilly stage including Ty Segall & WHiTE FENCE, Negative Scanner, Plack Blague, and Glyders! If standing outside in the cold all day gets to be too much, you’ll be able to relax inside at the bar where Numero Group DJs and (((SONORAMA))) DJ collective will be providing some tropical vibes. NOW WHAT: It’s free! Bundled up and rock out! Note: Outside is all ages, but inside Empty Bottle is 21+ Hopewell + 4 Hands Brewing Collaboration Release Party @ Hopewell Brewing, 2760 N Milwaukee Ave, 2:00pm - 6:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Hopewell Brewing will release Style Points, a 7% ABV brut IPA brewed in collaboration with St. Louis’ 4 Hands Brewing. SO WHAT: Style Points is “brewed with Idaho 7, Ekuanot and El Dorado hops and a quirky yeast from Norway. It’s brimming with stone fruit, tropical citrus and melon up front, capped by a super-dry finish.” If light-bodied brut IPAs aren’t your thing, you can enjoy beers from 4 Hands on tap. Meanwhile, Michael Ciapciak of Bang Bang Pie will be on hand with St. Louis food specialties to keep food in your belly as you sample the beers. NOW WHAT: There is no cover. Hopewell will serve Style Points on a first-come, first-serve basis. The 13th Annual Make-Out Party; “An Evening of Aural Intercourse” @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Making out, in party form SO WHAT: This is the 13th Annual Hideout Makeout Party and it’s exactly what it says it is. You and your partner can make out as The Makeout Party Orchestra performs some original songs alongside film score arrangements and classic love themes. You’ll be treated to the sounds of Frank Zappa, Celine Dion, Rimsky-Korsakov, The Ventures, Herb Alpert, Scott Walker, Ennio Morricone and many more. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $15 for this evening of locking lips. An Intimate Winter Evening @ DZ Records, 8548 S 85th Ct, Hickory Hills, IL, 8:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Another DZ Records style party! SO WHAT: Join DZ Records for a night of great music as they begin their year with a fantastic winter shindig! There will be a nice lineup of bands rocking out for your aural pleasure including John Till, Myna MacArthur, Public Disco Porch, and Our Fathers! NOW WHAT: Admission is $10. There will be free water and the event is BYOB. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24th Logan Square Farmers Market @ Emporium Arcade Bar Logan Square, 2363 N Milwaukee Ave, 10:00 – 3:00pm, WHAT: The Logan Square Farmers Market, one of the few farmers markets that runs weekly through winter, providing much appreciated direct income to farmers and the local food economy. SO WHAT:  You’ll find 35+ local (farmers within 250mi of Chicago and closer for food purveyors) farm and food vendors providing some much need local goods throughout the day. There will also be select arcade games available to play throughout the market and tunes from local musicians from 11:30am until 2pm ! Plus select drinks like bloody marys, Irish cream, farmers market cocktail specials and drip coffee will be waiting for you! NOW WHAT: It’s free! Just head out to Emporium and get in touch with the local farmers!   Handmade Market Chicago @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, Noon – 4:00pm WHAT: Shopping, eating, and drinking all in one place SO WHAT: Grab some food next door at Bite Cafe, maybe a drink from the Empty Bottle Bar, and start shopping the Handmade Market Chicago! They will be bringing over 30 makers of beautiful and unique items to the Empty Bottle! Join in and see what all the sellers will have to offer. TIME | SPACE Jazz Series @ Freehand Chicago, 19 E Ohio St, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Some excellent music to help end your weekend the right way SO WHAT: Every Sunday at Broken Shaker you will be hearing some of the best psychadelic jazz in the city, brought to you in two 45 minute sets played by a different trio every week.
