SPACE in Evanston is one of those special venues that instills a sense of wonder as you walk into its gorgeous space. Old speakeasy atmosphere mixed with a modern sophistication that always feels inviting not matter the show. Last year the venue celebrated it’s 10th year of providing the north Chicago suburb a place to see spectacular shows with Out of Space, a series of outdoor concerts happening through out the summer. Now in 2019, the fantastic series is back to bring that outdoors concert feel to Evanston!
The multiple meaning, pun titled Out of Space will be returning to the always fun Temperance Beer Co. (June 20th -23rd) and Canal Shores (Aug 8th –11th)! In the coming weeks, Out of Space will announce its summer concert lineup for their return to the much-loved community golf course in Evanston, but you can check out the eclectic and impressive lineup of musicians playing Temperance Beer Co. below. June 20: Digable Planets & Kweku Collins
Ever since the rap group Digable Planets reunited in 2015, they’ve been putting on show stealing performances wherever they go (including Pitchfork Music Festival 2016). The immaculate flows and nonstop energy of Ishmael “Butter Fly” Butler, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving, & Mariana “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira will have you grooving all night long. Opening up the night will be Evanston’s own Kweku Collins, the fast-rising rapper, producer and songwriter
June 21: Toots & The Maytals and Shamarr Allen & The Underdawgs
There aren’t many people as legendary in the world of Reggae as Toots & the Maytals, especially considering they’re credited with naming the genre. Full of soulful sounds and iconic songs, Toots & the Maytals will surely make their night at Temperance a party to remember! Opening the show will be New Orleans trumpeter and bandleader Shamarr Allen, who will showcase his party-ready band to add even more excitement to the night!
June 22: Liz Phair & Juliana Hatfield
After celebrating the 25th anniversary of her amazing debut Exile in Guyville with a series of excellent small club shows (including one at Empty Bottle), Liz Phair proved she hasn’t lost a step and has only gotten better. She’ll be hitting the Tempreance Beer Co. Stage along with Juliana Hatfield, the wonderful Boston singer-songwriter and The Lemonheads and Paul Westerberg collaborator.
June 23: Yo La Tengo & The Minus 5
Capping off the weekend at Temperance Beer Co. will be two incredible and long running rock bands! Indie rock cornerstones Yo La Tengo with their iconic/timelss sound will be headlining the night and the always entertaining The Minus 5, led by Scott McCaughey, will be opening the show.
