THURSDAY, MAY 23rd Jim Tashjian & Guests – Curated by Royal Hands @ Dorian’s, 1939 W North Ave, 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: An expertly curated night of music at a great venue SO WHAT: Dorian's is a great spot for creative cocktails and progressive performances. As you walk Through Record Shop at the front, full of rare and interesting vinyl, you'll slowly get transported to Dorian's chill atmosphere made for live lounging and listening to some great live music. This evening will feature the guitar of Jim Tashjian alongside Brian Courage on bass and Charles Rumback on drums. NOW WHAT: Performances begin at 8pm & 10pm; there is a $5 entrance fee FRIDAY - SUNDAY, MAY 24th - 26th Festival Mole de Mayo 2019 @ Pilsen on 18th Street Between Ashland & Blue Island, Noon - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Mole, a staple of Mexican dishes, is delicious. That alone should be enough to convince you to go. SO WHAT: Mole De Mayo is an excellent three-day event showcasing a mole cook-off with two awards: Mole de Mayo’s Best Mole Award (May 25) & People’s Choice Award (May 26), three stages of live music including the wonderful Xenia Rubinos (May 25th at 4:00pm), lucha libre (that's some good old fashioned wrastlin'), plenty of merchant & artisans, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff in Chicago's epicenter of Mexican culture. Galerie Finds Night Market @ Galerie F, 2415 N Milwaukee Ave, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: The first installment of Galerie Finds Night Market SO WHAT: Galerie F has expertly curated a collection of unique finds including rare, contemporary prints/artwork, vintage posters and highly sought-after collectibles for you to peruse! This is a great chance to look through Galerie F's archives and find that piece that you need in your collection! Guest DJ Esteban La Groue will be on hand dishing out jams while you enjoy cool beverages from Old Style and good vibes. NOW WHAT: Entry to the gallery is free! If you can't make it opening night, the collection will be on view thru Sunday, May 26th FRIDAY, MAY 24th Author Conversation: Ryann Donnelly & Jessica Hopper @ Women & Children First Bookstore, 5233 N Clark St, 7:00pm - 8:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Two great writers in conversation! SO WHAT: Ryann Donnelly will be stopping by Women & Children First Bookstore to discuss her new book Justify My Love with music critic Jessica Hopper. Justify My Love explores sex and gender in one of the most widely consumed art forms of our age: the music video. From the inception of MTV in 1981 through to the 2010s, Justify My Love reveals the subversive history of the medium. NOW WHAT: The event is free! You can RSVP here! Camp Cope with An Horse & Oceanator @ Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave,7:00pm - 10:00pm, 17+ WHAT: A cool tour making another stop in Chicago! SO WHAT: Camp Cope and Oceanator are no strangers to Chicago. After an excellent show last month, they’re back along with An Horse to deliver what’s sure to be another fantastic show! Their last show sold out thanks to their incredible sound, so don’t miss out on these wonderful bands! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $18 for this excellent show! French Police/ Avantist/ Rai/ Gabacho/ Caro Arroba @ Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave, 9:00pm - 2:00am, 21+ WHAT: An evening of modern Latin music SO WHAT: Serenata is an intimate showcase featuring Chicago’s Latin Alternative and Indie Latino influencers. The stage is your theatre, listen to never released work, and experience with your soul. This evening’s lineup include wonderful acts French Police, Rai, Avantist, Gabacho, and Caro Arroba NOW WHAT: Entry is $7 with RSVP, $10 without! So make sure your on the list and get to this excellent show. SUNDAY, MAY 26th HOIST FEST 2019 @ Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave, 3:00pm, 17+ WHAT: The inaugural HOIST fest! SO WHAT: This first edition of HOIST will be taking over both floors of Subterranean for a fantastic night of music from some of the coolest local acts around. The lineup for this fantastic night includes Rich Jones, Brasstax, Jordanna, Family Reunion, White Ppl, Jovan Landry, Lamon Manuel, Defcee, Uma Bloo, The Devonns, Jessica Mindrum, DXTR Spits, Cheer Chair, and Andrielle! In addition to all those great musicians, there will be plenty of beer, raffles, games, live painting, vendors and more! NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $15 for this jam packed night of local tunes!
