Last year, a nice collection of like-minded labels (Ghostly International, Chicago’s very own Numero Group and indie behemoth Secretly Group, which includes Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian) got together for an incredibly fun vinyl market/road trip/block party they dubbed Paved Paradise. A vinyl lovers little slice of heaven, Paved Paradise gave music fans a little get together and a chance to pick up some new vinyl for their collections. The tour spanned 3,000 miles across over a dozen locations and it's back for another go round! Paved Paradise will be making another stop on Wednesday, May 5, at Middle Brow Beer (2840 W Armitage Ave)!
Housed under a couple of tents, Paved Paradise offers up a nice selection of albums from the aforementioned labels' catalogs. Their last stop featured tons of limited titles and even a few surprises hidden within the stacks. Personally, I was able to pick up Lump's self-titled album on a beautiful multi-colored splatter vinyl that was originally only available through Secretly Society. It's a perfect way to discover some new music on vinyl or indulge in your favorites.
Each stop of last year's Paved Paradise offered up some fantastic experiences with their Nashville visit seeing Jack White come through and Chicago having a nice lineup of DJs to get the party going. The usual Paved Paradise fare will be on hand this time around with albums like Mitski's Laurel Hell, Mary Lattimore's Collected Pieces: 2015-2020 (on Gold Ripple 2x Vinyl LP), and Songs: Ohia's Live: Vanquishers LP, which was previously only available to Secretly Society subscribers and Jason Molina fan club members! There will also be a Hi-Res listening station and limited edition totes from music streaming and download platform Qobuz; plus limited edition LPs, 45s, cassettes, CDs and other ephemera perfect for vinyl lovers. If it's anything like the first Paved Paradise outing, this one is sure to be a treat.
