Philip Becnel Reading @ Quimby’s Bookstore

Events > 2018 > June > Philip Becnel Reading @ Quimby's Bookstore

About this event:

Created by Nancy Bishop

1854 W North Ave.

WHAT: Private investigator Philip Becnel reads from his first novel, Freedom City, a satire about the current kakistocracy. Very important word for today’s vocabulary: it means government run by the worst people.

SO WHAT: Becnel, paying homage to The Monkey Wrench Gang (Edward Abbey’s 1975 novel), weaves a story about what happens after President Trump dies of a stroke. A band of rebels from D.C. wages a comedic guerrilla war on post-Trump America. President Pence forms a volunteer army to crush the “alt-left” uprising.

Freedom City draws on Becnel’s nearly 20 years of experience working as a private detective in D.C., where The Washington Post has referred to him as the “Bogart of body language” for his interviewing skills. He previously published Introduction to Conducting Private Investigations and Principles of Investigative Documentation, two books considered must-reads in the investigations industry.

NOW WHAT: The event is free. Buy a book for $15 and you might get Becnel to sign it. Phone 773-342-0910 for more info.
