Hard to believe that it's been 30 years of the Minneapolis hip-hop duo Atmosphere. Composed of MC Slug and producer Ant, Atmosphere have dished out over a dozen albums, a hefty number of EPs and are still going strong. Fresh off the release of their new album Jestures, a 26-song album tracked in alphabetical order, Atmosphere is on the move with The Winter Carnival Tour, whcih is coming to the Salt Shed on January 31!
That latest project, Jestures, embodies Atmosphere's constant evolution as it races around multiple genres across its ambitious 26-song tracklist. Slug imbues his lyrics with complex themes and inventive flows, even for songs that fly by at under two minutes, all backed by Ant's rich and diverse production. As always, Atmosphere delivers.
The tour is a great synthesis of the Atmosphere / Rhymesayers realm along with a few surprises. The lineup will feature sets from Sage Francis and R.A. The Rugged Man, a premier DJ set by Mr. Dibbs, and a special performance by the prolific shapeshifter Kool Keith! It's honestly a lineup that shouldn't be missed, especially as it celebrates such a big milestone for the Minneapolis hip-hop scene!
