Tax returns released by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and analyzed by the Chicago Tribune show that the mayor makes about $365,000 per year. In his first six years in office, Emanuel has netted about $2.2 million, about half from his salary of $216,000 a year, and the rest from interest, dividends and capital gains from investments (Tribune).
Hundreds of New Laws Take Effect
With the ringing in of the new year comes a new set of laws that took effect on Monday. Some 215 new laws are on the books now, including expanded coverage for abortion, a new school funding formula, voter registration, changes to health care services and more. Big Money in 2018 Gubernatorial Election
With still more than 11 months to go until the 2018 gubernatorial election, candidates in the race have already raised more than $124 million collectively. Governor Bruce Rauner leads the pack with $74.7 million, followed by JB Pritzker, who’s raised $42.2 million (Politico).
