THURSDAY, JUNE 6th Half Acre Beer Hates Astronauts Launch with Ryan Browne @ Logan Arcade, 2410 W Fullerton Ave, 7:00pm - 11:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Logan Arcade, Half Acre Beer Company and Ryan Browne will be celebrating the 2019 launch of Beer Hates Astronauts, Half Acre’s collab with Ryan Browne ‘s sensory overload comic book, God Hates Astronauts! SO WHAT: Head out and enjoy some of this delicous beer, a free pinball tournament for Half Acre & God Hates Astronauts-related prizes, and the amazing Ryan Browne himself will be hanging out with copies of God Hates Astronaut for sale! FRIDAY - SUNDAY, JUNE 7th - 9th Spring Awakening @ Poplar Creek, 1400 Poplar Creek Drive, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169, 1:00pm - 10:00pm, 18+ WHAT: Three days of EDM madness! SO WHAT: While there is a venue change to a little bit outside the city at Poplar Creek at 59-90 Entertainment District in Hoffman Estates, this year’s lineup stays true to Spring Awakening’s EDM-centered mission! SAMF will bring some amazing headlining acts and underground DJs together for one great festival weekend! There will be plenty of big name artists including Galantis, Zomboy, Yellow Claw, Malaa, Dillon Francis, Benny Benassi, and Space Jesus at the always enormous and impressive stages. The specially branded tents Destructo’s AMFAMFAMF (All My Friends), Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats, and React’s very own Bass Kitchen will provide some more eclectic mixes to get more of the massive crowd dancing during the three day party! FRIDAY & SATURDAY, JUNE 7th & 8th Kevin Morby & Sam Cohen @ Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St, 7:30pm, 18+ WHAT: Heavenly music for the masses SO WHAT: While I’d be hard pressed to qualify Kevin Morby’s music as religious, the theme of religion has been apparent throughout his music and on his latest album Oh My God, it’s teeming with it. Oh My God deals with the religious experiences all around us, especially when they are bereft of an actual religion. This is as secular as a gospel album can get and it's goddamn amazing. Joining him will be Sam Cohen, who not only helped produce Oh My God, but is an incredibly talented musician in his own right. FRIDAY, JUNE 7th Cosmic Pop: Mac Blackout 2019 Solo Art Show @ Galerie F, 2415 N Milwaukee Ave, 6:00pm -10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: The vivid pop art psychedelia of Mac Blackout SO WHAT: Mac Blackout is a Chicago-based visual artist and musician creating wonderful and stimulating artwork that traverses otherworldly realms. His outrageous style ranges from mixed media paintings and illustrations to designing his own album covers to public murals that can be seen throughout Chicago. This new exhibition will feature work from Mac Backout’s Cosmic Pop! NOW WHAT: The artist reception is free and open to the public! Grand Opening & Slaps Vol. 2 @ Vault Gallerie, 2015 S Laflin St, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Vault Gallerie celebrates their new location! SO WHAT: This grand opening of Vault Gallerie's new location will also feature the spot's first art show "Slap Show Vol. 2" curated by Kawaii Suga. Slaps Vol. 2 will highlight over 100 artists  and all works will be $25! The venue will also be accepting donations of maxi pads and gently used bras for " I Support the Girls" a homeless shelter for girls. There will also be an after party over at Punch House! The Interview Show Podcast Taping @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, 6:30pm - 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Mark Bazer, host of The Interview Show, will host a recording session for their podcast this Friday at the Hideout. SO WHAT: For 11 years, The Interview Show has been featuring conversations with and performances by the most interesting people in Chicago and beyond. Join Mark this evening with some quality guests including Claire Lombardo, novelist, whose debut novel is The Most Fun We Ever Had; Zachary Engel, James Beard Award-Winning Chef, new Middle Eastern restaurant Galit; Carlo Rotella, Boston College professor, author of The World Is Always Coming to an End: Pulling Together and Apart in a Chicago Neighborhood; and Kelly Demaret, film producer, whose new horror film is 30 Miles From Nowhere. SO WHAT: The Printers Row Lit Fest, the largest free outdoor literary showcase in the Midwest, will be celebrating its 35th year with even more outdoor vendors and activities as well as a return to its roots as a community-based celebration for book lovers. The fest is presented by the not-for-profit Near South Planning Board and this year’s celebration includes more book dealers, all-free programs, a kids favorite book character costume parade, and much more. Funk Trunk Records Presents: C R A T E S (Chicago Record And Turntable Enthusiast Swap) @ Temperance Beer Co., 2000 Dempster Street, Evanston, IL 60202, 11:00am - 5:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Another edition of C.R.A.T.E.S., a record collecting event hoping to bring together record collectors and lovers at an awesome brewery SO WHAT: Join Funk Trunk Records and their friends at Temperance Beer Company for a day of crate diggin’ and craft beer sippin’. They will have a hand selected line up of DJs to provide the perfect soundtrack for thumbing through records from hand picked vendors with choice crates for collectors of all kinds! In addition to all the delicious food, Empty Bottle presents & Thalia Hall will be programming the live music stage with a mix of fun and cutting edge music from the like of Lester Rey, Cold Beaches, TRQPiTECA, and so many more!  The local businesses of Pilsen will be showcased, with local artisans, retailers, restaurants and non-profits participating in the event. SATURDAY, JUNE 8th Lo Rez 2 Year Anniversary Party @ Lo Rez Brewing, 2101 S Carpenter St, 4:00pm - Midnight, 21+ WHAT: An anniversary party for a great brewery SO WHAT: In addition to use their anniversary as an excuse to throw another big party, Lo Rez Brewing will also be dishing out some of their limited edition brews throughout the night! This anniversary will also highlight some awesome local businesses, raise money for Pilsen Arts & Community House* (P.A.C.H), an art auction by Pilsen Outpost, and DJs 606 Records (Drew), Bumbac Joe, BADWULFF, and Papa George will command the room for some jams! Lumpen Radio will be coordinating some great live tunes by Killer Drones, The Laughing Hearts, GEM TREE, Color Card, and Spacebones. NOW WHAT: Entry is free! Sam Prekop / Aki Tsuyuko / Douglas McCombs @ Constellation, 3111 N Western Ave., 8:30pm - 11:30pm, 18+ WHAT: An evening of interesting sounds SO WHAT: Sam Prekop is making some of the most interesting music of his career. Equipped with a modular synthesizer that he amazed on his own, Prekop is crafting complex sounds that harness the beautiful qualities of repetitions, patterns, and the luck. Creating sounds on the fly, Prekop’s recent shows have been a marvel to experience and are highly recommended.  Joining him will be experimental pianist Aki Tsuyuko and Doug McCombs who will perform solo on a Fender Bass VI guitar! SUNDAY, JUNE 9th TIME | SPACE Jazz Series @ Freehand Chicago, 19 E Ohio St, 6:00pm - 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Some excellent music to help end your weekend the right way SO WHAT: Every Sunday at Broken Shaker you will be hearing some of the best psychadelic jazz in the city, brought to you in two 45 minute sets played by a different trio every week.
