Your #StaytheFHome Chicago Curated Weekend: 6/18 and Beyond

Tons of locations are open with limited service but many venues will remain closed for the foreseeable future and we need to remember to continue being safe this weekend and beyond. So let's find something fun to do! Whether you're getting ready for the Can't Stop our Pride virtual parade, catching up on TV shows and movies, doing your part in fighting against police brutality, working out, trying out some new recipes, or whatever catches your fancy; you may still have a few hours in your day that need filling up. There are tons of fun ideas highlighted in this week's curated weekend including some from previous #StaytheFHome editions where the editors here at Third Coast Review banded together and suggested a few things you can enjoy while you're at home during these social distancing, self quarantining days! Since we're all still in this together, we encourage you to check out Do312's running list of venues that could use some love! THURSDAY, JUNE 11th

Beethoven Portrait by Joseph Karl Stieler, 1820. Beethoven 250 @ In the Realm of the Senses at Home, your best sounding streaming device, 8:00pm WHAT: Celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a live multi-sensory performance by In the Realm of the Senses (ITROS). The concert will include live art as artist Sergio Gomez creates a painting to the live performance of Beethoven’s string quartet Op.95. At-home gastronomic pairings are suggested. SO WHAT: The event will be streamed live from the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago. The show will include a tribute to the great 18th century African-French composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges with his duo for two violins. ITROS creator Jeff Yang on violin and viola will be joined by Chicago musicians from groups such as Eighth Blackbird and Vermeer Quartet, including Mathias Tacke, violin; Dominic Johnson, viola; and Nick Photinos, cello. FRIDAY, JUNE 19th

Tilikum Returns @ Streaming by Sideshow Theatre, at your favorite spot in your place with your best streaming device, 7:00pm WHAT: Sideshow Theatre Company will stream a one-night only revival of its 2018 world premiere hit, Tilikum, by Kristiana Rae Colon. The revival will be a benefit for the #LetUsBreathe Collective in honor of Juneteenth and the Black Lives Matter movement, and in solidarity with the protests in Chicago and around the world for an end to police violence against Black bodies. The presentation will include remarks and conversation with some of the artists who created it. SO WHAT: Tilikum was a king, and the oceans of the world were his. Now, he is a captive in a marine amusement park, doomed to live as an opportunity for profit. Alone behind bars he forgets the feel of freedom, but when fellow prisoners ignite the fires of his memory, he starts down a path that threatens to consume everything. Ripped from the headlines, Kristiana Rae Colón’sTilikum explores captivity, violence and rebellion in a vital and visceral blend of theatre, drumming and dance. We reviewed this thrilling and thought-provoking production when it premiered in July 2018. Tilikum won Jeff awards for new play, original music and projection design. (3CR was not using star ratings at that time or the reviewer would have given it 4 stars out of 4.) Founded by Colón, the #LetUsBreathe Collective is an alliance of artists and activists organizing through a creative lens to imagine a world without prisons and police. It operates the Breathing Room space, a Black-led liberation headquarters for arts, organizing and healing on Chicago's South Side. For additional information, visit letusbreathecollective.com. A New Freedom: Black Voices Honoring Juneteenth in a Time of Struggle @ Chicago Children's Choir's Facebook and YouTube, from the comfort of your home, 6:00pm WHAT: A virtual concert of music and spoken word featuring Black CCC alumni. SO WHAT:  This incredible concert will stand as a reminder of Juneteenth and the continued need for change. As CCC puts it: "Juneteenth celebrates dutiful resistance to systemic oppression and criminalization of Black skin and the resilience of our ancestors who endeavored to stand at fatal risk for the freedoms that Civil Rights leaders and Black Lives Matter protesters fight for today. Change does not happen without struggle and demonstration." The concert is curated by Lonnie Norwood, CCC Englewood Neighborhood Choir & In School Conductor, Tramaine Parker, CCC Alumna and Mark Myers, CCC Associate Artistic Director. FitzGerald's Online Concerts and Stay-at-Home Truck Concerts @ Their Facebook Page, Trunk concerts on Saturdays 4pm-6pm or any time after on VOD, All Ages WHAT: Musicians performing at home or in the back of a pickup truck and live-streaming it for all! The Quarantine Concerts @ Experimental sound Studios, Your best sounding internet connected device, at various times WHAT:  Experimental Sound Studio, Elastic Arts and the Hideout's Resonance Series come together for a series of amazing livestreamed concerts SO WHAT: The Quarantine Concerts is collaborative series which aims to give artists a space to share their work and continue earning a living during this time when live, in person, performances have been cancelled due to COVID-19. This is a perfect opportunity to unite the community for a few hours of amazing musicians. This weekend includes Autistic Pride Day Concert, Concert for Chicago Freedom School, and tons more! Reading Events Online @ American Writers Museum, month of April WHAT: The American Writers Museum is offering many programs online, including evening author talks and Saturday morning Little Squirrels Storytime. SO WHAT: Kids can watch Little Squirrels Storytime at 10:30am on Saturdays, with three pre-recorded stories read each time. The event includes puppets, burlesque, original music, fire dancing and more in a brief, darkly comedic confection. With the Red Coronavirus running rampant across the countryside and a vaccine still months away, what's a Prince to do? Lock himself in a secure bunker in an undisclosed location along with a cohort of his top donors, of course. To prevent him and his rich supporters from becoming bored, the Prince has also brought a few artists into the bunker to entertain the crowd.
