Lollapalooza takes over Grant Park each summer with its signature mix of massive crowds, booming music, and nonstop energy. Whether you're a fest-goer in need of a breather or a local looking to steer clear of the chaos, these spots let you enjoy the city without diving into the frenzy.
Farm Bar
Location: Lakeview & Ravenswood
Head north for a cozy farm-to-table experience at Farm Bar’s Lakeview and Ravenswood locations, where charming settings meet inventive, seasonal menus. Menu favorites include Wisconsin Cheese Curds, a refreshing Watermelon & Heirloom Tomato Salad, hearty burgers, and the JohnnyMac Cider. It’s crafted from a unique blend of apples grown on the owner-owned Brown Dog Farm. It’s a homey, relaxing option for those steering clear of the Lolla crowds entirely.

Sweetwater Tavern & Grille
Location: The Loop
Just a few blocks from the festival, Sweetwater offers a reliable downtown escape with elevated bar food, solid cocktails, and a spacious patio. From July 31 to August 3, Sweetwater will have a limited-time drink menu inspired by Sabrina Carpenter. Drinks include the Short and Sweet espresso martini shot, the That Me Espresso for something smooth and classic, or the Man’s Best Friend, a burnt orange Old Fashioned with a citrus-forward twist. Sweetwater is an easy go-to between sets whether you’re pre-gaming or winding down.

Castaways Beach Club
Location: Lincoln Park
For a breezy break on the beach, head to Castaways at North Avenue Beach. This lakefront spot serves up classic beach bar fare, frozen drinks, and unbeatable views of the water and skyline. With plenty of outdoor seating and a fun, relaxed atmosphere, it’s a perfect place to cool off, grab a bite, and soak in the summer vibes.

Swadesi
Location: South Loop
Swadesi is Chef Sujan Sarkar’s modern take on Indian café culture, offering a calm, sunny space to recharge just a short ride from Grant Park. Menu highlights include the corn & saffron latte (organic honey-saffron syrup, sweet corn cold cream, sea salt, espresso) and the orange oat shakerato (cold brew, bourbon vanilla, orange bitters, cold cream). Pair your drink with fresh-baked cruffins in rotating flavors like dirty chai and mango.

The Up Room at The Robey
Location: Wicker Park
If you're looking for skyline views and a stylish cocktail without being completely surrounded by festival-goers, head to The Up Room, a rooftop bar located in The Robey Hotel in Wicker Park. The Up Room is perfect for sipping something strong while watching the sun set over the city. You're far enough from downtown to really unwind but can jump on a Blue Line train to get back in if you want.

Arriba
Location: Ravenswood
Perched above Farm Bar in Ravenswood, Arriba brings bold Tex-Mex flavors to a vibrant rooftop hideaway that’s perfect for escaping the festival crowds. Sip on refreshing Margaritas, Palomas, or Mexican beers while snacking on chips with queso and guac, tostadas, shrimp cocktail, and more. With its sunny energy and laid-back neighborhood vibe, Arriba is a great North Side rooftop option.

The J. Parker
Location: Lincoln Park
Perched atop Hotel Lincoln, The J. Parker offers one of the best rooftop views in the city, stretching over Lincoln Park, Lake Michigan, and the skyline. It’s a breezy, stylish retreat with comfortable seating, summery cocktails, and a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you’re recharging in the afternoon or toasting the sunset, this north side gem delivers scenic serenity.

I|O Godfrey Rooftop Lounge
Location: River North
A few blocks north of the madness, check out I|O Godfrey’s spacious rooftop with retractable glass walls, fire pits, and sweeping city views. From July 31 to August 3, they’re celebrating Lollapalooza weekend with a special cocktail called The Lolla Pop Fizz, made with Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru, Martini & Rossi Fiero, Coastal Rosé Spritz, raspberry sorbetto, and a playful pop of Pop Rocks.

LondonHouse Rooftop
Location: The Loop
If you're looking for some of the best skyline views in the city, head to the rooftop at LondonHouse. For Lolla weekend, try their limited-time Watermelon Red Bull Margarita made with Don Julio Blanco, Cointreau, lime juice, agave nectar, and a splash of Watermelon Red Bull which is available through August 3.
Need a few final tips before diving into Lolla weekend? Make a reservation if you can, otherwise get there early because Lolla brings extra foot traffic to nearby spots. Try visiting during off-peak times to avoid the pre- and post-show rush and be extra kind to the staff. They're working hard during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Even when a giant music festival takes over the heart of the city, you're never far from good food and a place to relax. Whether you're dipping out between sets or skipping Lolla altogether, these spots offer a much-needed pause without leaving the city behind.
