Bites: What Actor Aurora Penepacker Eats in a Day

Amelie is one of the most beloved, fanciful and visionary films set in Paris. For those, like me, who rewatch the movie over and over, Kokandy Productions is bringing all that charm to Chicago with Amelie the Musical at Chopin Theatre until Sept. 28 and Aurora Penepacker snagged the coveted title role. As much as we want to know what it's like to step into those French bobbed shoes, we really were curious what Penepacker craved off the stage. Penepacker, who most recently took the stage at Writers Theatre as Natasha in Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, doesn't head out for baguettes or fromage; she's a coffee drinker with a craving for global cuisine. Read the interview below to find out her favorite spots in Edgewater, Uptown and beyond.

It's first thing in the morning, coffee or tea? And who does your favorite brew?

Coffee! The Lost Hours in Edgewater is my lifeblood. It's the perfect place to curl up in a comfy armchair and enjoy the morning sunlight.

For the most important meal of the day aka breakfast, where do you go and what do you order?

Tweet in Uptown has my favorite eggs benedict and it's an adorable spot with lots of space to sit outside.

Are you a grab-and-go lunch eater or a slow sit-down type? What's your place and order?

I love to pick up the Garlicious Chicken Breast sandwich from Pick Me Up Cafe in Andersonville during my lunch break walk. Their delicious Royale with Mocha is always the boost I need to get through the workday.

Afternoon pick me up? Snack? Caffeine or happy hour? Where is your favorite spot to jump start the evening?

Kanin over by Winnemac Park—they've got all the best nostalgic snacks and fun treats. I'm addicted to their musubis and you have to try their ube banana pudding. Shoutout to Tri and Noah and all the amazing and friendly staff there.

Dinner time, what place or meal brings your day to a close the right way?

Lately, I've been totally obsessed with Immm Rice & Beyond. Their panang curry is my favorite—it's absolutely scrumptious and it's the perfect way to bring a long day to a cozy close.
