Preview: The Dearborn Gets You Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day with Their Bobby Flay Beating Fish n’ Chips and Festive Tastings

The Dearborn (145 N. Dearborn) isn’t going to wait till the river turns green. Their annual Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day celebration is this Thursday, September 18 from 5 to 7 pm. This is your perfect chance to avoid freezing in your only green sweater while being shoved from one side of the sidewalk to the next by people who have been drinking since breakfast yet still take part in the best of the festivities. To mark the event, The Dearborn will have giveaways, music and tons of cheer. In my opinion though, the most exciting portion of the evening will be their Bobby Flay beating fish n’ chips.

As an avid Beat Bobby Flay watcher, I had to taste the claim to fame champion fish n’ chips for myself. The Dearborn's fish and chips features a tempura-battered Icelandic cod with crispy thin fries (chips), and slaw. The fish itself could happily stand alone with the charred lemon and remoulade. The slaw, a bit overly mayo-ed and not enough zing, sat left hangin' on my plate since the focus was on what mattered most, the delicate, not over-fried or greasy lightly breaded fish. Even without my most favorite of fish and chips side dishes, mushy peas, it's clear why this dish was a winner.

The Dearborn now has an O’Hare location; if you want the fish n’ chips though, you are out of luck when flying out, it is only available at the Loop location at 145 N. Dearborn.

If you’re ready for the luck of the Irish, and quite frankly, who isn’t, get a headstart this Thursday at The Dearborn. Event highlights include:

  • Guinness activations & sampling – with a special Guinness glassware engraving opportunity
  • Teeling Irish Whiskey tastings – complimentary samples from their award-winning portfolio, plus $10 Lucky Old Fashioneds and Teeling Small Batch shots.
  • Festive atmosphere – Irish music, beads and trinkets, and raffle prizes courtesy of Guinness, Teeling, and The Dearborn.

The Dearborn’s Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day party has become a lively tradition that not only gets you ready for March (free green things!) but gives you a reason to celebrate, no holiday stress required. The Dearborn’s Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Celebration is Thursday, September 18 from 5 to 7 pm. For more information about The Dearborn, 145 N Dearborn St., visit thedearborntavern.com.
